Today I woke up at 3:30am to go to the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo. It’s the largest fish market in the world with over 160 stalls selling various fish and other sea food. I had to wake up so ridiculously early because every morning around 5:30am the market lets in exactly 120 visitors to view a live tuna auction (first picture)! People start lining up at 4:00-4:30 to make sure they get a spot – hence the 3:30 wake up was necessary.
I also ate delicious sushi at 7:00am. That was an experience. There were a lot of people eating it in the morning too – but I would not consider it breakfast food. But then again, if everyone’s up at 3am anyways is 7am lunch? Ha. Anyways, I’ll keep my sushi for the afternoons and evenings.
If you visit Tokyo, the fish market is definitely a must do – you definitely get a feel of Japanese culture. But go when you’re jet lagged – you might as well if you’re going to be up that early :)
