ALUU: Hello (informal)

The first word I heard in Greenlandic (Kalaallisut) was a simple ‘hello’ from Frederik.  ‘Aluu’ opened up my world to the Arctic. This simple word exchange was the beginning of an opportunity to travel to and live in Greenland.

Frederik is the managing director of the Ilulissat Icefjord, UNESCO World Heritage Site, who I had the opportunity to meet with in October 2016. Fast forward many months later and I find myself in the very place I could only dream of going. I am amazed at the chance to immerse myself in a unique language, culture, and society. Greenland has truly been a place long on my heart – I am so grateful to be here!

Join me on this exciting adventure, read about the project here!
